Bill S-214 — IMLD in Canada
Parliament of Canada
Canada officially honours February 21 as International Mother Language Day after Bill S-214 received royal assent.
Bill S-214 established International Mother Language Day as a nationally recognized observance in Canada. It is a milestone in a campaign that began with a letter to the United Nations in 1998 and grew through UNESCO, Parliament, and community advocacy.
MLLWS continues to work with schools, libraries, and municipalities so February 21 is visible in classrooms and civic life — not only on paper.
